Celebrating Black History Month Across Lynwood Unified

As February comes to a close, Lynwood Unified reflects on the impactful celebrations of Black History Month, when students, staff and families came together to honor African American history, contributions and legacies through a variety of engaging events.

Schools across the District hosted inspiring jazz music performances, a Black History Month light show and special Spirit Days, during which students dressed as cultural icons and wore Pan-African colors such as red, black, yellow and green. Assemblies and festivals also featured songs, poems and tributes to influential figures.

Families attended the Aquarium of the Pacific’s African American Festival, immersing themselves in music, storytelling and cultural traditions. High school students also came together for the Teen Summit, a Districtwide celebration where Black students explored identity, shared experiences and strengthened bonds with one another.

These celebrations highlight Lynwood Unified’s ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion, ensuring every student feels seen, heard and valued. Looking ahead, the District remains dedicated to creating spaces where students can embrace culture, build community and celebrate their identities.
