Lynwood Unified 6th Graders Get Sneak Peek into Middle School During Electives Showcase

Lynwood Unified sixth-graders are gearing up for an exciting journey at their future middle schools, getting first-hand exposure to such topics as e-sports, band, robotics and more during the second annual Middle School Electives Showcase.

The January 18 event gave students the chance to explore their academic and extracurricular choices at Hosler Middle School and Cesar Chavez Middle School, with middle school teachers and students setting up interactive displays and excitedly showcasing their innovative programs for the 2024-25 school year.

“I was most excited about the medical electives,” Lugo Elementary School student Emily Sanchez said. “I want to be a nurse or a doctor.”

Cesar Chavez and Hosler middle schools offer learning opportunities in Project Lead the Way courses that inspire students to explore STEM. Electives include app development, computer science, engineering, biomedical detectives, design and modeling, robotics and more. Other engaging programs include e-sports, art, military, band, AVID, student leadership, film and video production and the Paxton Patterson Career Readiness Lab, which provides hands-on experience in STEM career fields.

Lynwood Unified School District is committed to developing first-class programs and fostering hands-on experiences that promote college and career readiness among students, increase their knowledge in a variety of subjects, and empower them to explore their interests and decide what is best for them and their future.
