Abbott Elementary took home the first-place team trophy. Roosevelt Elementary finished second, followed by Will Rogers and Marshall. Students who earned first- through fifth-place finishes were awarded medals and ribbons while earning points for their teams.
The 242 winning student-athletes, who had been training since January, will also compete at the California State Games qualifier meet at Rancho Dominguez Prep in Long Beach on May 21 and at the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation Championship at Warren High School in Downey on June 4.
The District established the after-school track and field program, along with funding for coaches and equipment for all 12 elementary schools, in 2017 as part of Lynwood Unified’s mission to promote healthy, active lifestyles.
